Excerpt from Vivan Sundaram, Vivan Sundaram: Re-take of Amrita, Tulika Books, New Delhi, 2001:
'Marie Antoinette’s passion for music brought the piano to all the homes she set up with Umrao Singh: to Lahore, where the photograph on the left was taken in 1912, to Budapest, the Hungarian family home in the countryside, to Paris, and to Shimla. On the right of this montage, Marie Anoinette in Shimla in the mid-1940s, playing her concert piano, a Grand Steinway. The family also had a Bechstein and an upright piano, on which Amrita and Indira practised.'
