Excerpt from Vivan Sundaram, Vivan Sundaram: Re-take of Amrita, Tulika Books, New Delhi, 2001:

'At a party with her classmate from the École des Beaux-Arts in the flat at Rue de Bassano, in the early 1930s. Amrita is on the extreme right dancing with Andre Hambourg (1909-1999), and next to her is Jean Chauffrey (1911-19??) who is dancing with (a half-hidden) Marie-Louise Chassany (1911-1939). Indira (with her back to the viewer) is dancing with an unknown man, while Jacques Despierre (1911-1995) dances with unidentified women. Henri Jannot, in the interview mentioned earlier, continued his observations about Amrita: 'Under the multiplicity of her relationship, Despierre, Hambourg, Beraud, they all went through the same kind of no tomorrow love. But there was a really nice atmosphere among us and she was first of all a painter, one among us.''
