World renowned art historians Wu Hung, Philip K. Hu, Betti-Sue Hertz, Robert E. Harrist, Jr., and Wen C. Fong discuss how contemporary artists draw inspiration from a traditional theme and create new works that resonate with contemporary audiences, both Chinese and Western. Also includes a bilingual discussion with artist Xu Bing. This symposium was held at the China Institute, New York on 16 December 2006 in conjunction with an exhibition of the same title.
