This catalogue was published in conjunction with Yang Maolin's solo exhibition 'Temple of Sublime Beauty: Made in Taiwan', a collateral event at la Biennale di Venezia, 53rd International Art Exhibition in 2009. With the backing of MoCA Taipei, more than 30 three-dimensional sculptures and flat pieces were featured, transforming a corner of a nearly 600 year-old Venitian church into a shrine to contemporary anime and manga. The exhibition is a culmination of Yang's creative process of deification and temple creation, and is part of his investigation into the proliferation of religious elements in secular culture.
