Asia Art Archive seeks to hire two full-time Archive Assistants to assist with digitisation work related to the Independent Art Spaces of Taiwan Project. Asia Art Archive (AAA) is an independent non-profit organisation in Hong Kong founded in 2000 in response to the urgent need to document and make accessible the multiple recent histories of art in the region. The successful candidates, to be based in Taipei, will work on an independent contractor basis with AAA under the immediate supervision of the Taiwan-based Project Researcher. For the most part, they will develop the digitisation of personal and professional materials and documents, including but not limited to correspondence, photographs, ephemera, video and audio‐visual recordings, manuscript and typescript documents, press clippings, and historical publications. This is an ideal project for an individual interested in gaining professional experience in archiving or working with historical materials related to contemporary art.

Working closely with the Project Researcher and colleagues in AAA Research and Collections Departments, the Archive Assistants’ responsibilities include:

  • Arranging and describing materials according to AAA standards
  • Digitising documents to archival standards using scanner and copystand photography
  • Preparing records for AAA’s online database for online access
  • On an as needed basis, assisting with project research, public programmes, and other administrative matters

Candidates should have:

  • A degree in art, art history, library science, or relevant study or professional experience
  • Ability to work independently and execute multiple tasks according to a project timeline
  • Attention to detail and good sense of organisation
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to learn on the job
  • Familiarity with office software, including databases
  • Interest in collection management and digitisation a plus, as is familiarity of photography

To apply, please send a cover letter and full CV indicating salary expectations to Sally Lee (sally@aaa.org.hk). Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
