Asia Art Archive (AAA) is seeking a full-time Assistant Archivist to support its research and archiving project on Taiwan contemporary art.

AAA is an independent non-profit organisation based in Hong Kong. Since its founding in 2000, AAA has been at the forefront of documenting and redefining the recent histories of contemporary art in Asia. Through dynamic residencies, cutting-edge research, innovative educational programmes, thought-provoking publications, and transformative institutional collaborations, AAA has become the go-to site for art professionals, scholars, educators, artists, and more. With the most extensive and growing collection of materials on contemporary art from Asia, freely accessible online and in its onsite library, AAA serves as an invaluable resource for inspiration and knowledge.

The successful candidate, based in Taipei, will work as an independent contractor under the direct supervision of AAA. The role primarily involves developing and digitising a range of archival materials—including correspondence, photographs, ephemera, video and audio recordings, manuscripts and typescripts, press clippings, and historical publications.

This project is ideal for individuals interested in professional archiving and working with historical materials related to Taiwan contemporary art.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Arrange and describe materials in accordance with AAA standards.
  • Digitise documents to archival standards using.
  • Prepare records for inclusion in AAA’s online database to facilitate public access.
  • Support users to access AAA Collections.
  • Provide assistance with project research, public programmes, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements:

  • A degree in art, art history, archive studies, library science, or a related field, or relevant professional experience.
  • An interest in collection management and digitisation is preferred; familiarity with photography is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks to meet project deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn on the job.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Chinese and English is essential.
  • Proficiency with office software, including databases.
