Amrita Beside Mother's Portrait

This work is from the Re-take of Amrita series.

Excerpt from Vivan Sundaram, Vivan Sundaram: Re-take of Amrita, Tulika Books, New Delhi, 2001:

'Standing beside a portrait of Marie Antoinette in her mother’s bedroom in Shimla in 1935, a sari-clad Amrita poses expressively for her father. Amrita wearing a trim Hungarian coat and cap displays a different relationship with the photographer who happens to be her first cousin and husband, Victor Egan. They were recently married in Budapest in 1938.'
