This work is from the Re-take of Amrita series.

Excerpt from Vivan Sundaram, Vivan Sundaram: Re-take of Amrita, Tulika Books, New Delhi, 2001:

'Umrao Singh used his home like a photographer’s studio. His self-portrait and his portrait of Amrita were photographed separately in Paris in the early 1930s. Amrita is positioned alongside her father’s majestic pose. Umrao Singh’s eyes carry an introspective calm as against Amrita’s naïve look. The dramatic contrast of black hair and white beard, their classical hands-on-hips stance, give an ironical turn to the mimicry.'
