Biography:
Shaw Tze (b. 1926, Shanghai, China)

Shaw Tze relocated to Hong Kong from Beijing in 1951 and subsequently took up positions in Mainland-funded publishing organisations such as Sinminchu Publishing (1951–58), Peace Bookstore (1958–64) and Joint Publishing (1964–86). Shaw participated in the 1967 riots and was jailed for a year for the involvement. He began painting after his retirement in 1992.

In this interview, he shares his perspective on the interaction between art practitioners and the publishing industry in 1960s–70s Hong Kong, particularly on the publications and resources circulating at that time. He recounts the political climate in the 1960s–70s, including the 1967 riots, and also discusses exhibitions led by Joint Publishing in the 1970s–80s.

Shaw lives in Hong Kong.

Jack Lee Sai-chong is Assistant Professor at the Academy of Visual Arts of Hong Kong Baptist University. Lee holds a PhD from the Department of Fine Arts, the University of Hong Kong. In 1994 he co-founded (with Edwin Lai Kin-keung) the Hong Kong Art History Research Society, and serves as Vice Chairman. The Society published the academic journal Besides from 1997–2001.

蕭滋
1926年生於中國上海。

蕭滋於1951年從北京移居香港,並輾轉於多間國營出版機構任職,包括新民主出版社 (1951-58)、和平書店 (1958-64) 及三聯書店 (1964-86)。蕭氏曾積極參與1967 年暴動,並為此繫獄一年。蕭滋於1992年退休後從事繪畫創作。

蕭氏於訪問中不但闡述1960至70年代香港藝術工作者和出版工業的互動關係,尤其是刊物和資源流通的情況,他亦憶述1960至70年代期間的政治氣氛、對六七暴動的看法以及1970至80年代在三聯書店所辦的展覽。

蕭氏現居香港。

李世莊獲香港大學藝術系頒授哲學博士學位,現為香港浸會大學視覺藝術院副教授。1994 年,李氏與黎健強共同創辦香港藝術歷史研究會,兼任副會長。該會曾出版學術期刊《左右》(1997-2001)。
