Way of Seeing: Painter Chabet: Stamp of Authority

Review of Roberto Chabet's solo exhibition, titled 'Painter Chabet: Stamp of Authority' by Eric Torres in his column 'Way of Seeing', published in The Manila Times in 1966.

The exhibition, held at Luz Gallery in 1966, features around 130 mostly black and white drawings and collages, including the series Lauds and Antiphons and Beato.

Excerpt from the review:

'Roberto Chabet is currently the painter who dominates the Manila art scene. I believe he is the best of the painters under 35 seriously and actively committed to painting hereabouts, a maker of cool, rationally controlled compositions that bear the stamp of authority. He is not only the most original artist after Hernando R. Ocampo but also seems to be one with the vast reserves of creative power. As a draftsman he is unquestionably among the best and belongs up there with Arturo Luz, Juvenal Sanso, Jerry Navarro and Fernando Zobel.'
