'This year's Bienal focuses on the issue of support, which represents the bridge uniting and defining contemporary art from the 1950s to the present day. Almost 200 foreign artists will be displaying their works, including videos. The 26 Brazilians participating in the BISP and series of side evnets to the Bienal itself will provide a bit of the history designed primarily to turn the spectator into an active participant in the artistic work.' - Nelson Aguilar, Curator of the 22nd Bienal Internacional de Sao Paulo.

The catalogue includes preface by Edemar Cid Ferreira, Chairman of the Sao Paulo Biennial, artist biographies and texts by curators of the participating countries.
