'Sudjana Kerton in Indonesian modern art has been viewed from various angles, the most well known one being that he is a figure who inherited nationalistic feelings on the part of Indonesian artists... This collection of writings in 'A Separate History' aims towards two things. The first one being, how the context of discussion on Sudjana Kerton is related to a system of knowledge in Indonesian modern art history. A system that operates and acts as mutual reflection in the constellation of Indonesian modern art. Secondly, presenting thhe figure of Sudjana Kerton in the context of his views and attitude towards art. Both of these act reflect on one another, not necessarily to present a new concept regarding the figure of Sudjana Kerton, but to have us take a second look at what we know of art and issues in art as something that still is and should be an ongoing process of dialogue and discussion.' - extracted from the introduction.
