He Yunchang's works involve being in different states of "existence". His performance of "inconsequential behaviors" underscores the existence of will power, and seeks to increase our understanding of fear, pain and loneliness through engaging in battle between "strength" and "weakness". Through repeating and prolonging arid and senseless activities, tension mounds. As a result, the performing aspect of his works is held back and what began as physical tests of endurance gradually evolve into psychological and spiritual experiences.
