Since its inception eight years ago, ArtPetron, a nationwide student art competition inspires young Filipino artists to create works of distinctly Filipino-themed artistic expression. National Artist Napoleon Abueva is ArtPetron's chairman of the board of judges. "Alay sa Pistang Pilipino," was the theme for 2008, and art students were asked to submit entries (photography, watercolor or oil painting) depicting the iconic imagery of a Filipino fiesta. The annual contest is open to all students aged 16-28 years old who are enrolled in an arts course.
