During the 1990s, Chen Danqing has been copying reproductions of various classical and contemporary paintings created by both Chinese and Western artists. He also began to paint them in juxtapositions. The works featured in this monograph focus on the Tiananmen series in which scenes from the massacre are juxtaposed against images taken from Western magazines and newspapers, in the forms of diptych and triptych. Also included in this monograph are foreword and preface by Ah Cheng (Chinese artist) and Wu Hung (professor in Chinese art history), and an in-depth study of the art of Chen Danqing, his methods and concepts, by Ackbar Abbas (lecturer in the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of Hong Kong).
