Talk Series I: 'Investing in Hong Kong Art' by Oscar Ho

As the Exhibition Director of the Hong Kong Arts Centre from 1988-2001, and a Senior Research officer for cultural policy in Hong Kong from 2001-2003, Oscar Ho has been at the forefront of the development of contemporary art in Hong Kong over the past 15 years. Ho is currently an independent curator and art critic. In the talk, Ho maps out the development of Hong Kong art by highlighting works of prominent artists in the territory. Ho also introduces briefly the multiple factors at play when considering the market for contemporary Hong Kong art.

Talk Series II: 'Trends in the South East Asian Contemporary Art Market' by Valentine Willie (29 June 2004)
Valentine Willie's professional involvement with Southeast Asian art began when he founded Valentine Willie Fine Art in 1996. Since then, he has witnessed growing interest in Southeast Asian art. In the talk, Willie gives an overview of the exciting trends in contemporary art and art market in South East Asia over the past decade. Works of artists with investment value are introduced. Images of works are presented to complement his talk.
The session is hosted by John Batten, Director of John Batten Gallery, one of Hong Kong’s leading galleries for contemporary Asian and Pacific art.

Talk Series II: 'Confessions of an Art Collector' by Eloisa Haudenschild (6 July 2004)
In the talk, art patron Eloisa Haudenschild, who has one of the most important collections of contemporary Chinese photography and video art, discusses her commitment to developing cultural vitality through her collections, with the hosting of internship programmes for artists and the organisation of exhibitions (recently shown in Shanghai, the USA and Mexico). Photographic works and two short videos from her collections complement her talk.

Disc 4
Talk Series IV: 'Privileging the Art of Now – Collecting Contemporary Asian Art' by Suhanya Raffel (13 July 2004)
Suhanya Raffel is the Head of Asian and Pacific Art at the Queensland Art Gallery, where she has worked with the contemporary Asian collection since 1995. Since the inaugural Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in 1993, which saw the first acquisitions of contemporary Asian art enter the collection, the Queensland Art Gallery has become one of the leading institutions to advocate and support the art of this region. Raffel discusses the Queensland Art Gallery’s decision to lead the collecting of Asian art with a contemporary focus. The relationship between the collection and the Triennial is also examined.
Images of works and videos from the collection of Queensland Art Gallery are presented to complement her talk.
