Featured in this video is the Beijing International New Media Arts Symposium held on 28-29 May 2004. It is part of the China Media Art Exchange Tour 2004, a nine-day new media study trip to China (Hong Kong - Beijing - Shanghai - Hangzhou) presented by Videotage. The aim of the tour is to promote Hong Kong media art, to strengthen and enhance its development through exchange with Chinese artists, institutions and organizations.
The 2004 First Beijing International New Media Arts Symposium has provided a constructive and meaningful platform for a rigorous dialogue on new media arts education among the participants and audience. Four subjects with keynote speeches addressing the historical and current status of new media arts education and practice are included.
The four focus areas are as follows:
Synergy – New Media as an Incubator for Interdisciplinary Curricula Development and New Social Spaces (Disc 1-2)
Meaningful Technologies (Disc 3-4)
Methodology and Multiplicity – Models of New Media Education (Disc 5-6)
Dissemination as Education (Disc 7-8)
