'Bian Pingshan's heart is as calm as the still water in a pond, and so are his paintings. There is nothing majestic in his pictures, just small everyday things - low hills, country cottages, gurgling brooks, little bridges, paddy fields, lotus, chicken and ducks... Bian is one of the advocates of 'New Chinese Literati Painting,' the continuation and development of traditional literati painting. The style stresses an ability to capture the essence and "soul" of the objects, instead of their form...' - Hua Jia. The monograph showcases Bian's works in three parts, Screen in Series (1-12), Round Fan in Series (13-24) and Folding Fan in Series (25-28). A brief biography of the artist is also included.
