Shigeo Sasaki, who has collected modern and contemporary art materials in and out of Japan, donated his collection to Independent Administrative Institution, National Research Institute of Cultural Properties Tokyo, in 1997. Although this extensive collection is still in process of cataloguing, the CD gives us a good idea of the materials it contains. Fully catalogued are 1226 books, total of 3391 issues of 100 periodicals, 2956 catalogues of the exhibitions held between 1945 and 1998, and materials for ‘War Painting’ and ‘Gutai Bijutsu.’ The section of ‘War Painting’ consists of 246 books, 536 periodicals, 102 exhibition catalogues (post 1945.) And the section of ‘Gutai Bijutsu’ consists of 45 books, 75 periodicals (copies included,) 12 issues of Gutai published by Gutai Bijutsu Kyokai (copies included), 106 exhibition catalogues, and miscellaneous (brochures, invitations and so on, copies included.) Further extensive materials are not yet catalogued, but put into files by artists (342,) galleries (340,) and 144 miscellaneous.
