Catalogue of the exhibition 'Korean Rhapsody: A Montage of History and Memory' held at Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art in Seoul from March to June 2011. After enduring a long period of hardship that saw the Japanese occupation, war and division of the country, and struggle for democratisation, Korea has prospered economically in recent years. Social and economic forces has led to the disappearance of 'sites of memory' and the loss of cultural identity. In response this exhibition reexamines Korea's turbulent modern history through its visual culture. Eschewing a chronological display, art historical works from the past are juxtaposed with contemporary artists' reinterpretations of history. The artworks are complemented by a range of visual cultural materials, such as documentary photographs and moving images, calligraphy by pro-independence activists, and Japanese ukiyoe woodblock prints.

Images of artwork are accompanied by brief commentary in Korean. English translations are provided in the 'Catalogue' section at the back of the book.
