Lee Yongbaek has been at the forefront in combining high-tech digital media with art in the Korean art scene since the early 1990s. Lee is known for his experiments on multi-channeled interactive art, sound art, kinetic, and robotic techniques. As suggested by Kim Wonbang, Lee’s works are often viewed as merely advanced high-tech media art without paying full attention to his artistic intentions. As a result, in his accompanying essay, Kim examines the artist’s works in an attempt to reveal underlying concepts such as ruling symbolic orders, taboos, blasphemy, and boundaries of the heterogeneous other. Artist biography is included in the monograph.
