‘Li Fuyuan’s work features an especially bold use of colour. The neat, accurate construction of his paintings with blocks of colour and strong contrast between light and dark shades is reminiscent of the ‘stained glass’ technique used in churches in the West. The subjects in his paintings are drawn from the countryside and forests around his hometown in Xishuangbana, southern Yunnan province. His style effectively complements the simple, naïve images of the flora and fauna of the forest and conveys the wild, untamed vitality of the Yunnan minority culture.’ – Fong Yukyuan. A brief biography of the artist is included.
