The present catalogue features photographs by Taro Okamoto who is known for the 'Sun Tower', symbol of Expo' 70 in Osaka. According to Yoshihar Fukuhara, after attending a lecture on ethnology given by Marcel Muss at the University of Paris in the 1930s, Okamoto decided to visit the traditional villages of Okinawa and the Tohoku region and recorded the people, events and natural surroundings with his camera. The instinctive sensitivity to mystery found in his photos belies their firm roots in ethnology. Featured in the catalogue are photos from his expeditions. Please note that the catalogue is mainly in Japanese. Texts by Yoshiharu Fukuhara, Takeyoshi Tanuma and Yuji Yamashita are provided in both English and Japanese.
