Catalogue of joint exhibition held at The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo in 2006. The Museum has held as a series of exhibitions since 1998 to capture contemporary photographic expression from various perspectives. The present exhibition 'Resolution/Dissolution' is the third in the series. 'Boundaries of different domains, such as national borders and coastlines, have always provided photographers with important subjects. This show tries to highlight, for example, slight signs of historical turning points found in everyday life, the threshold between the self and the surrounding world, and the contours of the vehicle of expression called photography. The efforts to cross such borders might provoke great forces that totally changes how everything appears. However, encounters with such boundary region - the criticality - should give us a deeper understanding about the setup of the world.' - extracted from the foreword. Artist biographies and artist interviews are also included in the catalogue.
