This is the fifth issue of ‘Short Reports on Re-constructing Spaces’,published since 2001. In accordance with the theme ‘Culture, Vacancy, Sightseeing and Space’, five contributors discuss matters from different angles citing concrete examples. Hweilan CHANG, the executive director of the artists' village of Kio-A-Thau Culture Society (Kaohsiung) argues that even if people live in the countryside, they can be very international. Ping LIN (Vice Professor of Tonghai University) reports on art activities that he organized at a vacant space (a former lumber mill) and the art space, Stock 20 in Taichung.
