This catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition ‘Six Contemporary Chinese Women Artists’ which opened at the Chinese Cultural Center of San Francisco in 1991. With the artist’ diverse backgrounds and experiences, the show intended to offer glimpses into broader social and cultural issues in the making of art in contemporary China. Besides a study on the artistic evolution of the chosen artists, this publication also provides artists’ biographies, a bibliography and a glossary of Chinese characters.
