Catalogue published on the occasion of Hong Kong's participation in the 52nd Venice Biennale. 'STAR FAIRY, this year's exhibit, is a bold and critical collage woven from the juxtaposition of the surreal and the mundane elements of the city by local artists Amy Cheung, Hiram To and Map Office (Laurent Gutierrez and Valérie Portefaix) under the curatorial direction of arts veteran Norman Ford. Cheung's Ferris Wheel, bearing a load of frozen figures, To's installation, and Map Office's talking parrots are individually the artists' impressions of the city in which they live and breathe, and in unison a collective invitation to the rest of the world to probe into this dynamic and intriguing city of the east. 'Star Fairy' uses the common language of art to empower and envision individuals to speculate, contemplate, fathom and dissect the messages embedded in the art pieces.' - Ma Fung-kwok, Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.
