Fang Zhaoling is a senior painter in Hong Kong who had studied painting with various masters including Zhao Shao’ang and Zhang Daqian. She, however, did not confirm herself solely to the rules of traditional Chinese painting. In attempting new experiments in pictorial compositions, techniques, themes and concepts, Fan succeeded in achieving breakthrough and established her unique style. Over a hundred works are presented in this exhibition catalogue, offering a retrospective look into the development of the art of Fang Zhaoling. Tang Hoi-Chiu’s essay (in Chinese only) further provides an in-depth study of the evolution the Fang’s artistic path over the past five decades, from 1960s to 1990s. Artist’s seals and chronology are also included.
