Zhang Xiaoming, a specialist in Chinese contemporary art at Sotheby's, New York, raised concerns that Chinese contemporary art is overpriced. After gains of 40 percent for the past two years, the Chinese contemporary market could be heading for a correction. While auction records were still being set for Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Indian contemporary art, some lots failed to sell at Christie's May 2008 auction in Hong Kong, and interest in Chinese 20th century art showed signs of fatigue.
