This volume offers a diverse sampling of work from every phase of Chinese painter Zeng Fanzhi's career from 1989 to 2010, from the Meat and Hospital series he produced while still a student in Wuhan, to the Behind the Mask series which he began shortly after moving to Beijing in 1993, followed by Beneath the Mask in which the faces of his subjects are revealed; to the We series with enlarged faces obscured by the artist's spiral brushstrokes; to recent works that fuse figurative and landcape allusions with gestural abstraction.

With an introduction by Fabien Fryns and an essay by Richard Shiff. Artist biography, list of works and bibliography included.
