‘There are endless stories about people’s fascination with their own dreams and desires. This is the only reason behind the creation of “Diary of a Sleepwalker”.’ – Zhu Wei. This series of works marks a new stage in the artistic development of Zhu Wei. In both content and style, the artist is seen advancing towards the representation of a subjective spiritual world. The wit, humour and expressive colours and forms remain, but above all, there is a mixture of imagination and reality, remoteness and obscurity. The perceptive essay written by the artist’s former teacher Professor Liu Tiancheng provides an in-depth study and analysis of the art of Zhu Wei, which will prove helpful with the artist’s growing body of work. A short biography is included.
