Swimming with Elephants

This work is from the Re-take of Amrita series.

Excerpt from Vivan Sundaram , Vivan Sundaram: Re-take of Amrita, Tulika Books, New Delhi, 2001:

'The waters of a pond and a lake merge. Amrita swims from the west to the east. Amrita sometimes used photographs as reference for her paintings. The photographs on the left served for her painting, Elephants Bathing in a Green Pool, done in Saraya in March 1938. The photograph of Amrita swimming in Lake Balaton in 1938 was taken by Victor Egan.'
