This catalogue features works by artists who received awards and honorable mention in the 2002 Taipei Art Award, transformed from its predecessor in 2001: Taipei Prize (or Taipei Annual Art Competition) launched in 1969.
For this year, There were a total of 353 works applied including 312 two-dimensional works, 39 pieces incorporating CD-Rom projections and audiotapes, two pieces displayed on the internet. Ya-hui WANG, Hsing-yu CHANG, E. CHEN, Chen-chu TSAI and Sam SUI received the award, and each recipients received NT200,000, an award certificate and five complimentary copies of the competition catalogue. The other 11 honorable mention recipients received NT30,000, a certificate and two copies of the catalogue.
The panel of judges consisted of Jui-jen SHIH (art critic), Goang-ming YUAN (artist), Fang-wei CHANG (chief curator, Taipei Fine Art Museum), Dean-E MEI (artist), Victoria LU (art critic), Ye-cheng YEN (artist) and Shih-yung KU (artist). Each of them gives a review in the catalogue.
With prefaces by the mayor Ying-jeou MA, the director of Cultural Affairs Bureau Yingtai LUNG and the director of Taipei Fine Arts Museum Tsai-lang HUANG.
