Chinese artist Li Wei's performance photographs were featured on the promotional materials for ArtHK08, Hong Kong's first International Art Fair that took place in May 2008. He inaugurated the event with a live performance. Li Wei told MacauCLOSER magazine why he switched from painting to performance: "When the audience is in front of the performing artist, they are not seeing mere visual images, but a real experience." After Li Wei invested in a high-quality medium-format camera, he started staging his performances using sophisticated stunt techniques for photographic sessions. He first sold these works in 2002, represented by an Italian gallery. His work gained international attention after he made the cover of the magazine Flash Art
