Miyoshi Kazuyoshi was a Japanese photographer specializing is island paradises such as the Maldives and Tahiti, when he discovered an island paradise closer to home in the early 1990s.  In 1991, he began photographing Yakushima, an island that receives more than 450 cm of rain annually.  In 2000, he published his collection under the title Sekai isan Yakushima.
