This volume features over 200 images reproduced from over 10,000 photographs taken by Ai Weiwei in the 1980s and the early 90s while he was living in New York. They capture the comings and goings at his apartment, which served as a hub for of young Chinese artists, filmmakers and musicians; his exploration of the city and its art scene; as well as later riots between local residents and the police that took place in the East Village.
