This publication compiles papers from the conference held in Québec City, Canada, 20–25 October 1998. The event was aimed at reviewing Action Art over the last twenty years by reappraising the broad range of practices associated with it during the sixties and seventies. The first part covers the period from 1958 to 1978, bringing together historic protagonists of diverse forms of Action Art: the Happening, Fluxus, ZAJ, Body Art, Action Poetry and Actionism. Following on from this, Action Art specialists from 21 geographic zones recount the period from 1978 to 1998.
Papers in this volume are supported by numerous illustrations. Also included in this publication is documentation of actions presented during the international meeting. The introduction is written by Richard Martel, who gives a synthesis of Action Art practice from Futurism to Situationism. Please note that only selected chapters are listed below.
