This book presents a collection of writings by curators, cultural workers, art critics, scholars and political theorists pertaining to the theme of the 9th International Istanbul Biennial. The curators of the biennial note this edition is not an attempt to sum up the state of art today or to represent certain tendencies, but is a series of artistic projects made for and selected with the city of Istanbul constantly in mind. These writings examine the discourse of art within the cultural, social, political and historical context of Istanbul and the Middle East. Brief biographies of the authors and contributors are provided.
