T.K. Sabapathy's contract as the director of the three-year-old Contemporary Asian Arts Centre at the Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts expired in June 30, 2004.   Though the centre was established to be independent from the college, it failed to be self-funding.  Last year, the centre was integrated into the college's research arm, which raised questions about the "independence" of the arts centre, and made fund-raising more difficult.  The centre aimed to develop and promote research into contemporary Asian Art and to encourage cross-regional collaborations.  It required about 250,000 a year to operate.  T.K Sabapathy plans to set  up an autonomous centre similar to the Contemporary Asian Arts Centre.
