This book re-addresses Arte Povera through a wide variety of primary documentation as well as more recent writings. The first 3 chapters; ‘For and Against: A Critical Framework,’ ‘Before Arte Povera’ and ‘A Cultural Context,’ discuss the evolution of Arte Povera, its precedents and parallel activities that contextualize Arte Povera in the culture of the 1960’s. 13 chapters follow which are devoted to each of the definitive Arte Povera artists. Each artist’s chapter includes extracts from the artists writing or interviews, at least one early criticism and one recent assesment. The final chapter discusses the practices of those artists who were affiliated with the movement but eventually developed in a different direction.
