Gao Xingjian, a Paris-based painter-novelist who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2000, was invited by Alisan Fine Arts gallery to come to Hong Kong in May 2008. This article describes the events he went to: a public lecture titled ‘The Finite and the Infinite—the Aesthetics of Creation’ on 23 May, the Gao Xingjian symposium on 28 May, and the opening of his play, ‘Of Mountains and Seas,’ on 30 May.
