The Ateneo Art Awards is an art prize presented annually in memory of Fernando Zobel de Ayala (1924-1984). The Awards exhibition Outbound eschews conservative acceptance, working beyond society's comfort zones, challenging the status quo, reflecting, responding, underscoring the Filipino's experiences and reactions to the vicissitudes of the everyday. Outbound also focuses attention on the Ateneo Art Gallery Studio Residency Grant. Initiated in 2005, it is the only program of its kind organised by a Philippine cultural institution. The program provides one of the three Awardees with the opportunity to exhibit work overseas, thereby developing his or her audience, and promoting an awareness and understanding of modern and contemporary Philippine art internationally. Image of works are accompanied by comments by the jurors.
