This is the catalogue of Ashim Purkayastha's solo exhibition at Sakshi Gallery in 2004, featuring his mixed media works on revenue stamps. Ranjit Hoskote wrote in his essay, 'Ashim Purkayastha works over arrays of revenue stamps, marking them with miniature, stamp-sized images based on photographs or iconography: a dead cow, a dead monkey, both referring to Hindu taboos and icons; a sweeper who resembles the Grim Reaper of mediaeval European allegory; a falling figure based on the defeated Mahishasura in a Mahabalipuram bas relief.' These works are often critiques and ripostes made at the margins of the Indian nation-state. Artist statement and biography are provided in the catalogue.
