Beyond Beijing is curated for Osage by Yang Li and Vincent Huang. Li, from Shanghai and Huang from Taipei bring to Hong Kong and the international art world a group of artists all of whom embrace art's power to create and transform our view of the world we live in. The title refers to the spread of China's influence beyond its political centres and its own borders to the broader international community.

Curator Yang Li's catalogue essay 'Art's Free Walk' describes how these Chinese artists do not abide by any stereotyped rules either in terms of artistic concept, or in the manner and method of art, and adopt instead a free style approach towards contemporary art. In addition, an essay titled 'Beyong Beijing' by art historian Jonathan Thomson examines the preoccupations and concerns of each of the artists in the exhibition. Artist biographies are also provided in the catalogue.
