This is the catalogue of a solo exhibition by Lai Chiu-Chen at Main Trend Gallery in 2006. Featured in the exhibition are paintings inspired by manga and anime. The artist wrote, 'In this exhibition, I cracked an entrance on the artificial coating covering popular cultural items such as toys. A replica emerged to become the new surface (new plane) from the superficial phenomena of subcultures and the flows and movements of void consciousness. However, if any viewer is curious to reveal such a coating, he or she will find that there seems to be an element of reality (truth) that transcends the superficial, amid the semi-transparent material layer. The tug of war between these two elements yields a new leak, a sub-space that allows the viewer to breathe, meander, contemplate and hesitate. A new meaning is thus drawn.' Artist biographies are included.
