'Changing Identity: Recent Works by Women Artists from Vietnam' is the first major exhibition of contemporary Vietnamese women artists to travel to the U.S. The works of these 10 contemporary artists challenge the stereotypes and traditional roles of women in Vietnamese society. These women are independent and complex and their outlook is challenging and honest.

Each of the artists brought together for this exhibition has a different story. From painting, to drawing in ink, to video performance, photography and multi-media installations, each artist has found a medium that best represents her trajectory and life story. Through this exhibition, viewers will understand these women in their historical and social context as artists, as Vietnamese, and as individual human beings.' - quoted from the book's front sleeve.

The present catalogue accompanies this exhibition which was held from 2007 to 2009 at five different venues in the U.S.
