In the 1990s when Chinese photographers began exploring and doing more conceptual work and participating in more photography exhibitions, photography started to become an eye-catching phenomenon in the Chinese contemporary art scene. This also went hand-in-hand with the growing popularity of digital and video images. The present catalogue is a documentation of the exhibition ‘Charming China: A Conceptual Image Show’, showing conceptual photographic works by ten contemporary Chinese artists. An introduction to the exhibition and some brief biographical information of the participating artists are included.
