Chen Chenghsiung studied wood carving at the age of 14 and became a qualified craftsman when he was 17. Then he spent around six years as apprentice to the master from China travelling around Taiwan to practice woodcarving projects at many temples. Chen sent his 'amateur' sculpture pieces to the National Southern Taiwan Art Salon and received praises for his works. From then on, Chen devoted himself to being a self-taught sculptor and showed his artworks in several large-scale art exhibitions including the National Southern Taiwan Art Salon, Taiwan Province Art Salon, New Construction Exhibition at Japan, etc.

The present monograph features some of Chen Chenghsiung's bronze sculptures of common people in their everyday activities. Artist biography is provided.
