Catalogue of Chen Liangjie's solo exhibition at Hanart TZ Gallery in 2006. Johnson Chang wrote, 'Chen Liangjie first found his artistic theme with the Whispers series in 1998. He was intrigued by the mystery of people in private exchange, sharing secrets that create a special bond between them. The paintings look at them from afar, putting the figures fuzzily at the centre of the pictures as though they are observed with long lens, safely out of earshot. With the Whispers series Chen paints a vivid picture of the private conspiracies that form the basis of the mystery of humanity. The same privacy is also at the root of strife and mistrust. It is an ambiguous zone of indeterminate meaning; here the shared intimacy provides support for community, and sows the seed of dissent. As humans we are all descendents of such ambiguous sharing.' The catalogue features paintings from Chen Liangjie's World series (2004-2006), and Whispers series (1998-2000). Also included are short text by Zuo Jing, interview with Chen, artist statement and artist biography.
