Catalogue published in conjunction with the exhibition 'China Dream', on tour through three museums in Japan in 2004. Composed of loaned works such as trade paintings and posters from Hong Kong, Shanghai and Japan, the exhibition attempts to piece together "fragmented images of a dreamed China and the dreams China had in the modern period" (excerpt from Foreword). The organizers hope to shed light on the modern art of China which connects the classic art preceding the Qing dynasty and contemporary art of China, and challenge the privileged status of "high art" over mass-produced prints and reproductions accessible to ordinary people. This catalogue includes descriptions of each work as well as artist biographies.

Note: A supplement with Simplified Chinese translations of the essays is included with one copy of this catalogue.
